WEEKEND #4--National Theater

On the Sunday of that test/Tortuga weekend, Marie and I went with my students to a play at the National Theater in San Jose. The play we saw was Las Bizarrías de Belisa by Lope de Vega, one of Spain’s first and most prolific dramatists, who wrote about the same time as Shakespeare. All I knew before we went is that this play is a romantic comedy that would be performed in Spanish (of course), but we figured we would probably understand enough from the words and actions to get the gist of the story. And that was true. We even got some of the jokes!
