An important guest was President Oscar Arias, who spoke about his own school days and the importance of education. After he spoke, the parade started, and he stepped forward to greet people. I guess that's what is expected--only a few security guards and people being able to be close to their president. In case you are wondering, he is the same Oscar Arias who was president in the 1980s and who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to bring peace to Central America.
